Voting right 'the beauty' and Voting duty 'the Cruelty'

                                    Many a times i have heard people saying that voting is not just our rights but also our duty. I tend to agree with it however what angers me is when they say it must be made compulsory. Anna Hazare was the latest high profile personality to suggest this,Surely one has the right to refrain from voting in a proper democracy.What exactly can we accomplish by making it compulsory. I personally think  the people who do not vote are the ones who are simply not interested in politics or any aspect of it. Now think do we really need people who know naught about politics to vote based on say which parties symbol design is better or something as inconsequential as that . Maybe i exaggerate but it's still a morbid thought making a person who is not interested in voting to vote; Not only does it violate his own rights but also makes a mockery of election process. The other reason people do not vote is it's too darn tough in India to cast a vote
                                       Regarding the first issue what the election commission should do is make it compulsory  for all parties to make a three to five pages election manifesto. I know they prepare it already but the important point is three to five pages.Lets be honest  no one has the time nor interest to read anymore.The EC  should then distribute this to every household. The EC should also make sure that the parties views on some important issues are clearly stated in the manifesto. This could be a way to generate interest in politics for those who never had any before. Maybe the government offices and other companies too could get involved by holding seminars on the manifestos of various parties instead of just the usual run-of-the-mill seminars on "voting is your duty so perform it" ;
                                          Regarding the second issue it's great that  people who are that lazy are not voting it could only be good for our country how could that ever be a bad thing. Anyway The EC can give a bit more security around the booths and perhaps online voting would be the ultimate solution to this problem
                                          But the bottomline is, without trying to sound too elitist; isn't it better that the ignorant,indifferent and just plain old lazy just don't vote. They are doing us a huge favour by staying at home
